This is a brand new plant I just received yesterday from California
Carnivores. Its a small species of pitcher plant from the mountains
of South America, and is the only species of pitcher plant that is
native to that continent. This one is still quite small; only about
one and
a half
inches tall. I hope it may grow up to six or so inches tall, but
I don't suspect
that will be happening for quite some time. |

I found this plant at the Lyndale Garden Center in
Minneapolis. It was in a little pot with a plastic cover that read "Purple Pitcher Plant." It was very small and hardly recognizable
as a pitcher plant, but its been growing now for a couple years in
my
terrarium and has bloomed several times. In the Spring its common
to see carnivorous plants for sale at garden stores around town. They're
in little plastic pots labled "Little Pot of Horrors" and
its interesting to see what varieties are available. |
