About the Photos

All the photographs in these galleries were taken by me and of course are copyrighted by me (and I do reserve all rights). Please do not use them without permission or you will be ritually cursed for several generations.

The pictures in these galleries were mostly taken on 35mm format with a Nikon N90s camera named Natasha (she's a very good girl). I use Kodak Royal Gold 100, Kodak portrait 160 NPS, Ilford Delta 100, Fuji Super 800gs (although a fine film I seldom use it -- a Bogen tripod can gain you many f-stops without the grain associated with high-speed films), Fugi Supra 100, Kodak High Speed Infrared, and T-Max 100 black and white films. All black and white film and prints are processed / printed personally. After printing my own colour prints for a time I gave up and now have them processed at Photos Inc. in Minneapolis.

What wasn't shot on Natasha were taken on a Mamiya RB Pro S, which is another excellent piece of equipment. I mainly use Kodak Plus X Pan and Kodak VPS 160 films with the Mamiya, but I also occasionally use Fuji 160 as well. I will also use Kodak Technical Pan film with either camera from time to time.

I print all black and white photographs on Ilford fibre based papers, and I use Kodak RC paper for the colour prints.  Normally I use Glossy finish for both black and white and colour prints.

I've recently entered the digital age with the purchase of a Nikon D1x 5.5 megapixel digital SLR. Its a very nice camera and is based on Nikon's top of the line F5. It gives me the ability to use all my Nikon lenses, and takes extremely sharp and high quality images. I did some experimenting and discovered I could print out a very nice 11x14" image with no image degradation; and hey, I'm picky. One of the nicest things about shooting digital is you can see instantly what you've taken and can tell right away how the photo session is going. Another extremely nice benefit is the savings on film and developing. By not having to buy film and pay for developing, at roughly $20.00 per roll, the camera will pay for itself after I've run the equivalent of two-hundred rolls of film through it. Of course, the digital camera isn't an end unto itself; I still plan on shooting with film and printing on high quality fibre photographic paper. But it is another nice tool to have in the camera bag and has proven very useful already.

As a further update on the world of digital, I now have a Nikon D2x, which is Nikon's latest and greatest digital SLR camera. It is a 12.4 megapixel camera, and surpasses the old D1x on pretty much every level. The photos I've taken with it so far have been quite remarkable; it will be a valuable addition to my equipment.

If you have any comments or suggestions I'd be very happy to hear them just as long as they are *constructive*. I really don't have the time or energy to deal with negative or insulting comments, and I really can't think of anyone else who does.

Also, most of these pictures are available for purchase to interested people. For further info, follow this link:  Purchasing Information.  Also, feel free to  inquire concerning other uses of these photographs, such as on a WEB site or in a publication.
